I'm pretty sure this dorky half Indian half British dude I work with is in love with me. Today, I was getting into the elevator as he was stepping out. He was on the phone, so he stuck his leg in front of the elevator door so it couldn't close, awkwardly ended his phone conversation, and then was like "Um so, you uh, you wear a lot of green don't you?" And I was like, "Uh, yea Shriram. I wear green sometimes." Then the elevator started buzzing because he wouldn't let it close, so I said, "You need to move your leg so the door can close." And he said, "Oh um yes, of course, I'll see you back in the office!"

Somebody needs to teach this poor man some skillz. He's probably a virgin, in case you're interested Ashley...

GV weekend

Thank you for a lovely weekend ladies. Sometimes you just need some girl love. and I did. as Jenna especially discovered when I asked her if I was loveable and burst into tears as she was dropping me off at the bus. Good times.

We did yoga. We gossiped. We ran on the beach. We slept, we ate, we stole hats. Perrin and Meredith were sorely missed.

Tell me everything!!! I ended up pushing myself to go out on Friday night- Beach House (the band) was amazing....but the rest of the weekend I was completely immobile. the pattern is this: wake up with the worst pain ever and then feel slightly better between the hours of 4pm-9pm then go to bed and wake up with the worst pain ever allover again. I'm going to Passover Seder tonight at my aunt and uncle's house (my uncle is a doctor and my aunt is a hypnotherapist/alternative medicine guru, so hopefully I'll get some goodies from one of them :)

I told Luke on Friday- I really really miss you all. Hope you had a GREAT time in DE and have stories to entertain me!!!

Well Im in DC with the girls

THank god. Last night was spent boozing with my mother and brother and gushing about the divorce and making out with David. Some things never change. My goal today is to do some work so I can have a guilt free weekend. Check out my current view. Sweet working environment.

Beach Weekend...

Here are the deets:

So, Jenna is coming up here on Friday afternoon, and then I think that we should all drive together (me, Jodi, Laura, Jenna). I can drive, since I know how to get there, but is anyone else coming from DC that would make us need to take two cars? Hmm. There is a grocery store on the way there, so we can just stop on our way in, but Jodi, you are in charge of the board games, and we might want to get some alcohol before we leave DC in case things are closed by the time we get there. Plan should be to leave at 6 PM on the dot so that we can get there before the grocery stores close.

Professional Demeanor Fail

Anyone ever marched into your boss' office to demand that you be treated with more respect and ended up in hiccuping sobs?

Cause that's what happened to me on Wednesday. I literally wept. In my editor's office. Because I hadn't been invited to the Huffington Post staff dinner that night.

He's clearly not used to dealing with these emotional outbursts, since I'm the only woman in an office of about 12 men, so he just panicked and passed me a box of Kleenex.

"What can I say to get you to stop crying?" he said, as I tumbled further into my emotional breakdown.

"Nothing," I said, in between hyperventilations. "I work the same hours as everybody else here. I write articles. I skip lunches. And I do it for free. The least you could do is invite me to the goddamn staff dinner."

He just sat there staring at me for a while. Then he said, "Ok, it's gonna be ok, just take a walk around the block and blow off some steam."

So I walked out into the main office, and all the men I work with were just staring at my red puffy face.

Huge fail. HUGE fail. And after all that, I still didn't get to go to the staff dinner.

Oh Hello, Monday.

Spring?? Where are you?? I am ready to wear less clothing and get out of my apartment on a more regular basis. Who is with me??!

Did I tell you guys I went on a ski trip with my two best SIPA buds and took Geoff as my plus one. True story. Everyone loved him naturally. It was his birthday and we got wasted and played a ping pong hybrid with 6 people and two paddles running circles around the table. no socks allowed for obvious reasons. We baked him a cake and had a champagne breakfast the next morning. Good times.

Perrin, don't think the irony is lost on me that you are skipping our beach house weekend to go see a band called "Beach House." What the fuck is that about?

Jodi was in bad form last night (as was our bathroom, not coincidentally), but hopefully she'll get her shit together (pun intended) by the 27th.

This blog is an amazing idea. I love it.
I'm sitting at my high school internship site waiting to register kiddies for classes and wondering if visiting a blog with the word "vagina" in it it kosher on this public school computer....

Thanks to everyone who helped me learn how to post on a blog- I am SO this decade.
As for the weekend of the 26th...I don't know if it is going to work out. I have a much anticipated show on Friday night (Beach House) and just don't know... super disappointed, as I miss our whole group together more than you know. You gals are by far some of my most favorite people ever.

Ashley-- don't fret about the exam-- can you talk with the professor? I'm finding that grad school profs are much more willing to help you succeed than in undergraduate....and I MISS YOU. Have a wonderful time in RIO woooot!

LIZ- Congrats on getting a job in Switzerland!! Laura gave me the update and while I am super disappointed that you will be leaving the area (we've only just begun...to loveeee...) I am happy for you!

FYI guys, I will be leaving for the Dominican Republic tomorrow morning at 6 AM, so I will not have steady access to email for the next 10 days. My community better not give me too much shit for "abandoning them" and my dog better not be dead. That is all I have to say. I still demand a wiener-face-shot, Laura.

Bombed my stats exam fuck

Can't perform anymore ladies. The one exam I had to ace I didn't even finish. fellowship in jeopardy. GOD DAMMIT. Outside of the money, does anyone care about grades in grad school? i.e. can I let it all follow inertia down to a B?

Last midterm today, then I host multicultural night. I've become the go-to for hosting events. It's flattering and exhausting. I'm still hoping Meredith can come!

Jeff Sachs loves to beat a dead horse. That being said have any of ya'll seen this weeks ecnomist on gendercide? I know you get that shit at home Liz. 124 boys born for every 100 girls in China right now. WOW. With the sheer scale of their population, that means 40 million men MORE than women, 40 million shiftless men without possible wives in their peer group. Apparently that number is comparable to the total amount of young men in the US.

and thoughts on undergrads. So well dressed and so insufferable. My portuguese class makes me go to Columbia undergrad world and I can no longer take the liberal arts slant that I was enchanted with in college. "We enforce inequalities primarily through our language which reproduces the dominant and oppressive hierarchy." I had to control myself from giving the bullshit cough. I want to deal in antiretrovirals, population growth rates, financial disbursement to women-led households to solve inequalities. Then maybe we can get around to our the massive problem of language.

-18 credits suck. Midterms and fellowship apps made this the most intense week of my life. I haven't been out in 2 weeks no lie. and you girls no that shit is not normal.
-I'll be in Ruhira, Uganda this summer. 3 months starting May 27thish right after Liz's departure.
-Leave for Rio on Friday. CANNOT WAIT. 10 days of spring break at my home away from home.
-therapy sucks. are you guys sure it works? its painful and hard to work into my schedule.
-I miss you guys desperately. Can't wait for GV weekend.
